A trustee of Redwings Horse Sanctuary has completed an ultra-walking challenge in aid of the charity.
Ian Scott, who’s 70 years old, walked 100km (over 60 miles!) across the Lake District as part of the Ultra Challenge Series at the weekend (7th and 8th June), finishing 18th out of 38 competitors.
Ian, who has been volunteering his time to sit on Redwings’ Board of Trustees for four years, says he’s “a bit broken, but it was worth every step”, as he battled the elements to raise money for the charity.

The challenge, which started and finished in Kendal and had to be completed within 24 hours, involved brutal hills, rain and wind.
Ian said: “There was pain, laughs, tears – and pies at 2.15am! This challenge really had it all, but I finished in a time of 22:28:05 and probably the fastest of the old geezers.
“When it rains in the Lakes, it really rains, and the uphill paths turned into streams. The wind was a real struggle too.
“I had fantastic support from my wife Alice, who met me at the halfway stage with a change of clothes, rehydration drink and encouragement.
“Wonderful messages from friends, Redwings and those who had donated kept me going to the end, despite missing my best walking buddy Mike who has been on past ultras with me.
“I am so close to my £2000 target, and it would be so wonderful to achieve that, so please do donate if you’re able. Every penny goes towards the horses, ponies, donkeys and mules Redwings rescues.”
