Lecture Synopsis:

Cytology can sometimes be a daunting task for nurses, especially when asked to examine slides to a aid a vet in their diagnosis work ups or in critical patients.

This session will help nurses learn how to correctly use and care for the microscope, have more confidence looking down the microscope at urine, ears and blood smears and be empowered to go outside of their comfort zone to create and examine slides to aid in house results.

Learning Points:

  1. Learn how to prepare samples for in house examination.
  2. Identifying common cells.
  3. How you can assist the vets during their diagnosis work ups.

East Anglia BVNA Advocate:

Kay Eminson BSc(hons) RVN, CERT VNES

Having qualified in 2009 Kay has been fortunate to work in a variety of set ups and nursed everything from cow caesarians to total hip replacements, practice management and budgeting to surgical scrub nurse in cataracts. She developed an interest in quality improvement and in 2020 was highly commended in the RCVS QI awards for her project on dental analgesia.
