Speaker: Nikki McLeod PGDip(CAB) BSc(Hons) RVN NCert(Behav) ISFM CertFN & AdvCertFB
A crazy cat lady and even crazier study geek, Nikki has a passion for cat and dog behaviour, reducing fear/anxiety/stress in the vet practice, and for collecting post-nominals. She has a dislike to cats being called ‘spicy’, shock collars, and human vomit. With a neurodivergent mind, she loves to share her knowledge in her own quirky way, by verbally diarrhoeaing facts and figures and images of cats and dogs that wouldn’t be that interesting on YouTube. Despite being in her twilight years of her career, Nikki is a now a St Andrews University student studying the human side of behaviour.
Lecture Synopsis:
Stress at the veterinary practice for our canine patients can play a huge part in not being able to provide a quality service to canine caregivers and make our jobs so much more difficult. This lecture will discuss trigger points in the vet practice, and what you as the vet professional can do to reduce fear, anxiety and stress. Also we will discuss how to make the vet visit a collaborative affair, involving the caregiver as a team member for ‘Team Dog’.
Learning Points:
- Discuss the meaning of fear, anxiety and stress and what causes it
- Discuss the stress triggers for dogs within the vet practice
- Learn tasks that both vet professionals and caregivers can work on to reduce FAS
