Nomination period open for Fellowship Vice-Chair election

Fellows are now able to put themselves forward to stand for election to become Vice-Chair of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) Fellowship Board with responsibility for broadening the learned society’s influence and the diversity within its membership.

The Fellowship Vice-Chair has a key role in ensuring the effective implementation of the Fellowship Board’s strategy to create a thriving learned society. An important part of the role will therefore be to work together with other Board members to heighten the Fellowship’s visibility within the profession and more widely, as appropriate.

Other specific aspects of the Vice-Chair role include workstreams with the aim of broadening and consolidating the Fellowship’s influence as well as encouraging greater diversity within its membership.

Commenting on the Vice-Chair role Dr Niall Connell FRCVS, recently elected Fellowship Board Chair, said: “I’m very much looking forward to working with the new Fellowship Board Vice-Chair. The position plays an important role with the Chair as we work with the Board, our society of Fellows and the College to progress the development and activity of the fellowship. I really hope we see election applications from lots of our fellows, whether well-established or recent and from all backgrounds.”

Fellows have until 5pm on Friday 13 September 2024 to submit their application

Individuals wishing to put their name forward for election are required to be supported by two other Fellows (a proposer and a seconder). Candidates will also need to submit a biography and manifesto of no more than 200 and 300 words, respectively. Further details on how to apply can be found on www.rcvs.org.uk/fellowship/rcvs-vice-chair-fellowship-board-elections-2024/.

The election period will take place between late September and early October, when all Fellows will get a chance to vote for their preferred candidate. If only one candidate stands, Fellows will get the opportunity to either vote for them or reject their candidacy.
