Laura Hughes, Vet Nurse Development Manager at Purina is to share her career journey with delegates at BVNA Congress in October. After six years in practice, Laura has had a varied 22 -year career at Purina encompassing customer service, business development, supply chain management and demand planning before taking up her current nurse development role. Her talk will discuss transferable skills from practice and Laura will be available on the Purina stand C1 for any nurses wishing to progress within practice or build upon their current knowledge base. Also on the Purina stand will be an interactive game and a focus on renal and urinary health. Additionally, the team will be talking about the newly refreshed online Vet Centre as a valuable resource for nurses offering access to CPD, nutritional studies, tools and more. On Friday at 10.30 am Laura will give a talk in the exhibition hub on how to conduct effective nutritional conversations with confidence.
With a long-standing passion for effective communication and a strong belief in what can be achieved by a determined veterinary nurse, Laura has long championed the role in practice. Explaining why she wanted to share her career journey, she said, “I’ve been so lucky to have had quite as many varied and exciting opportunities, all within the same organisation. The skills I learned in practice, particularly around communication, time management, efficiency and initiative were valued from the start and that really builds confidence. As Purina Nurse Development Manager I want to make sure that I help empower others to grow their career and to enable them to grow their practices by truly appreciating and fully utilising the skills they have acquired.”
Purina is a Gold Sponsor at congress this year and the company recognises that strong veterinary practices need innovative, empowered and informed nursing teams. Nurse clinics supporting long-term care of feline renal patients to more effectively manage the team workload are just one of the initiatives the company has been supporting, with a webinar on Wednesday 16th October immediately after congress set to explore this important topic. Featuring vet nurse Laura Jones BSc (Hons), DipAVN (Small Animal), ISFM DipFN, VTS (SAIM), RVN, Senior Medicine Nurse and Veterinary Technician Specialist in Small Animal Internal Medicine, and Purina Scientific Affairs Manager for UK and Ireland, Libby Sheridan, MVB MSc MRCVS, this session is free to attend. Registration is available at https://membership.elearning.vet/feline-ckd-webinar-reg.
BVNA delegates looking to be inspired can hear about Laura’s career journey and insights at the exhibition hub on Sunday at 12.30 pm and visit the Purina stand C1 for resources, games, giveaways and refreshments throughout the event.
