Recording of July RCVS webinar on new ‘under care’ guidance now available

The full recording of a second live and interactive webinar held by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) to help the profession better understand the forthcoming ‘under care’ guidance has now been published and is available to watch.

Following the oversubscribed webinar on the new guidance that took place in June, the College organised a further webinar with senior officers and staff to explain the guidance, what it will mean for the professions and answer questions submitted by delegates both before the event, and live during the event.

The webinar took place on the evening of Monday 17 July and was, once again, hosted by now RCVS Senior Vice-President Dr Melissa Donald MRCVS, with RCVS Standards Committee Chair and now RCVS Junior Vice-President Linda Belton MRCVS, RCVS Registrar Eleanor Ferguson, and RCVS Head of Standards Gemma Kingswell.

As with the previous webinar, the panel gave an overview of the key changes for the guidance, which comes into effect from 1 September, the considerations to take into account when prescribing POM-Vs remotely, the circumstances under which POM-Vs cannot be prescribed remotely, the prescription of antibiotics, antifungals, antiparasitics, and antivirals; and how the guidance will be enforced.

In addition, the July webinar also dealt with issues raised in June, including a query about prescribing under the cascade and the panel gave an update on the position when prescribing based on cultures and sensitivities.

The July webinar can be viewed at www.rcvs.org.uk/undercare. This webpage also has the new guidance in full, as well as a range of practice-based scenarios to help members of the professions better understand the application of the guidance, and a series of frequently asked questions – plus answers – that the College has received since the new guidance was announced.

If you have any questions about the under care guidance that is not answered in either the webinar or the resources on the webpage, you can contact the RCVS Standards and Advice Team on advice@rcvs.org.uk
