Horse Hospital team do triathlon in aid of Redwings

Vet unit staff from Redwings Horse Sanctuary have completed the Tri-Anglia Norwich Triathlon, raising hundreds of pounds for the charity.

Sarah, Emma, Rachel, Lou and Lizzie, who all work at Redwings’ Horse Hospital, took part in the event on Sunday (23rd June) along with Rachel’s sister Helen.

Vet nurse assistant Lizzie, who made up a three-person relay alongside Sarah and Lou, said: “We have the pleasure of making a difference every day to the lives of the horses, ponies, donkeys and mules in our Sanctuary. We love our jobs as well as keeping fit and training together outside of work, so we thought we would take the opportunity to try to raise a few pennies for our beloved charity to help keep caring for our lovely equine residents.”

So far, they’ve raised over £700, which will go towards the costs of looking after the horses, ponies, donkeys and mules in the care of the largest horse welfare charity in the UK. Redwings, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, is currently responsible for over 2,000 rescued equines, including 700 living out on permanent loan in Guardian homes.

Vet Sarah said:  “We are very proud of our team! We were out of our comfort zones, but we all dug deep to cross that finish line. And we were the only team with a Shetland pony cheering us on!

“Belle isn’t a Redwings Guardian pony herself but lives with three who are. Having her as our chief cheerleader as we cycled past on Sunday definitely gave us a little bit of extra motivation.

“We have raised an unbelievable amount for Redwings and are so grateful for all the support”.
