MMI champions mental health research this World Mental Health Day

The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) Mind Matters Initiative (MMI) is continuing to champion the importance of mental health research this World Mental Health Day, announcing that abstract submissions will soon be opening for its 2025 biennial mental health research symposium.

MMI Lead, Rapinder Newton, said: “The theme for this year’s World Mental Health Day is ‘Mental Health at Work’ and we are keen to remind people of the vital role that research plays in protecting and supporting mental health in the veterinary professions.

“Having already launched our new research grant programme this year, which includes funding for two new grants, we are now delighted to announce that we will also soon be opening abstract submissions for our next research symposium which will take place in autumn 2025.

“Research is a core part of MMI and has the power to create meaningful and long-term systemic change. So, if you are a mental health researcher whose work impacts or is related to the veterinary professions, please do keep an eye out for further information on our 2025 symposium. We will be welcoming researchers at any stage of their careers to be a part of the day and present their research, as well as those who are interested in mental health research within the veterinary professions to come along as delegates.

“Our 2025 symposium will be our fifth symposium and will also mark 10 years of MMI. We look forward to celebrating all that MMI has achieved and the opportunity to discuss how, together, we can continue to foster a compassionate environment and build a solid evidence-base for veterinary mental health research to grow and evolve.”
