Michelle has been qualified for almost 20 years and has worked within various practice settings during this time including charity, emergency and exotics. She currently works at North Wales Veterinary Specialists and has been here as an anaesthesia nurse for almost 10 years.Michelle gained her Veterinary Technician Specialist qualification in anaesthesia and analgesia in 2019 and has since written course material for various CPD companies and spoken at national conferences. 

Lecture Synopsis:

The presenting signs of a blocked cat can sometimes be vague & the stabilisation of these patients can be really challenging. In this session we will look at how to quickly identify & stabilise these patients when they present including fluid therapy, electrolytes & ECG interpretation as well as anaesthesia of this high-risk patient.

Learning Points:

1. Recognise the clinical signs of urethral obstruction
2. Identify electrolyte imbalances & ECG changes that may threaten life
3. Know how to stabilise these patients before anaesthesia
4. Learn the most effective monitoring techniques during anaesthesia
