Speaker:

Samantha Thompson RVN Grad Dip VN CertVN ECC DET

RECOVER Instructor

Samantha is an experienced registered veterinary nurse with a background in teaching and supporting nurses within practice. She spent most of my career working in a large referral hospital; North Downs Specialist Referrals, where she held several positions. Beginning her journey as a rotating RVN and then eventually becoming Clinical Services Manager.

Whilst in this position she overhauled the Cardiopulmonary training protocol and introduced a robust induction programme. She became a RECOVER Instructor in June 2022 and loves supporting practices and individuals become more confident with CPR

Lecture Synopsis:

Following on from last year’s webinar, this webinar looks at the changes to come out of the RECOVER 2.0 Guidelines that were released in June this year.

Using the RECOVER Algorithm means evidenced based medicine is being utilised and this should be the goal with our practice. The RECOVER algorithm was first created in 2012 and these new guidelines have generated a new algorithm to sit alongside the guidelines.

Whilst basic life support remains largely the same there is more clarity and guidance on the areas that were perhaps a little unclear in the 2012 guidelines. There are also changes to how we perform CPR on our barrel-chested patients plus some big changes to advanced life support.

This webinar will provide learners with a refresher of CPR the RECOVER way and provide them with the headlines of the changes made in 2024.

Learning Points:

1. Be able to describe the steps of BLS

2. Be able to list the changes made to BLS and how this will impact their practice

3. Explain the changes made to ALS and apply those in practice.
