Redwings hosting party for new Adoption Star at Aylsham centre

Redwings is inviting everyone to join them to welcome a brand-new Shire horse, Papillon, to their popular Adoption scheme.

Papillon’s party takes place this Sunday (25th October) at 11am, but the centre will be open to visitors from 10am till 4pm.

Jude Palmer, Redwings’ Communications Manager, said: “Earlier this year, following the very sad loss of our beautiful Shire horse Lady, we were delighted to welcome her friend Papillon to the Redwings Adoption Scheme.

“As one of the largest horses at the Sanctuary, Adoption Star Papillon is hard to miss. But don’t let her size fool you, she is known for her calm nature, kind heart and love of people – making a perfect ambassador for us.

“We know she’ll be familiar to many of our supporters but hope this weekend will introduce her to some new ones too.”

Papillon’s life at Redwings began the day she was born, so she has only ever known human kindness. Her mum, Tortoiseshell, was rescued while pregnant with her. Tortoiseshell was part of a group of Shire horses who had been left to fly-graze in Kidderminster.

Following a huge rescue operation involving several charities, Tortoiseshell and five other Shire horses found safety at Redwings, and before long Papillon made her arrival. Having spent her whole life in Redwings’ care, she has grown into a gentle giant with a lovely nature.

Photographs of Papillon are available to download here.

Sunday’s party will include a talk from one of Papillon’s carers, a grooming demonstration, a fun quiz and more and is completely free to attend. The event is suitable for all and dogs are welcome on leads.

Donations are always welcome and you can sponsor Papillon here.

Jude said: “Sponsoring a horse, pony or donkey, like Papillon, at Redwings is a fantastic way to support our charity and make a new friend in the process. From just £2 per month, you will receive an adoption pack and regular updates from your Adoption Star about their adventures at the Sanctuary!”
